DNA4X4 Complete 4×4 Recovery Kit

A recovery kit is one of those things you hope stays in the bag. The DNA4X4 4×4 Recovery Kit is designed to make sure you’re prepared for any off-road situation.

Until the day it absolutely earns its keep.

The DNA4X4 Complete 4×4 Recovery Kit has been put together to provide a strong, practical and easy-to-use recovery setup for 4×4 owners, overland travellers, off-road enthusiasts, farmers, contractors and anyone regularly operating vehicles away from solid ground.

Rather than relying on a basic tow rope and a collection of mismatched recovery gear, this kit brings together the essential components required for a properly planned vehicle recovery.

It includes our heavy-duty kinetic recovery rope, two high-strength soft shackles, a machined recovery ring and a dedicated DNA4X4 storage bag.

Kinetic Recovery Rope 14,000 kg

Unlike a conventional static tow rope, a kinetic recovery rope is designed to stretch progressively under load.

During a controlled recovery, the rope absorbs energy as the recovering vehicle moves forward and then releases that stored energy progressively into the stuck vehicle.

This helps provide a smoother recovery force than simply hitting a static rope hard.

It is particularly useful when recovering vehicles from:

  • Mud
  • Sand
  • Snow
  • Soft ground
  • Ruts
  • Loose surfaces
  • Other situations where a vehicle is bogged or unable to gain traction

Correct recovery technique is essential. Excessive run-up, violent snatching and uncontrolled wheelspin should never be used.

High-Strength Soft Shackles 16,000 kg

The two included DNA4X4 soft shackles provide a lightweight alternative to traditional steel recovery shackles in suitable applications.

Each shackle uses a simple loop-and-stopper-knot design.

The loop is passed through a suitable rated recovery point, the stopper knot is passed through the loop, and the loop then cinches securely behind the knot when tension is applied.

Soft shackles are particularly useful because they are:

  • Lightweight
  • Easy to store
  • Simple to handle
  • Less likely to damage surrounding surfaces than heavy steel hardware
  • Suitable for many modern rated recovery points

They must always be protected from sharp edges and inspected before every recovery.

Recovery Ring 10,000 kg

The included DNA4X4 recovery ring is designed for use with suitable synthetic winch rope.

When combined with a compatible soft shackle and properly rated anchor point, the recovery ring allows the winch rope to be redirected through its machined outer groove.

Depending on the recovery configuration, this can be used for directional pulls or mechanical advantage.

The synthetic rope must remain fully seated in the groove and the complete recovery system must always be limited by its lowest-rated component.

Built for Proper Recovery Equipment, Not Tow Balls

One of the most important parts of any vehicle recovery is selecting the correct attachment point.

This kit should only be used with properly rated vehicle recovery points, rated anchor points and compatible recovery equipment.

Never perform a recovery using:

  • A tow ball
  • Transport tie-down points
  • Unrated factory loops
  • Suspension components
  • Tow-bar components not specifically rated for recovery
  • Damaged or questionable attachment points

A recovery system is only as strong as its weakest connection.

Ideal For

The DNA4X4 Recovery Kit is suitable for a wide range of vehicles and applications, including:

  • 4×4 vehicles
  • Pickup trucks
  • Overland vehicles
  • Expedition builds
  • Green-laning
  • Off-road use
  • Farms and estates
  • Utility vehicles
  • Commercial and fleet 4x4s
  • Camping and touring vehicles

Why Choose the DNA4X4 Recovery Kit?

At DNA4X4, we work with 4x4s every day.

We supply, install and advise on off-road equipment, suspension, protection, recovery equipment, lighting, overland accessories and complete vehicle builds.

This recovery kit has therefore been developed as a practical package rather than simply a collection of accessories thrown into a bag.

Every component has a clear purpose within a vehicle recovery setup, and the supplied manual explains how the equipment should be inspected, connected and used.

Important Safety Information

Vehicle recovery can be dangerous.

Always assess the recovery before connecting equipment, use suitable rated recovery points and keep all people well clear of the recovery area and line of pull.

Inspect all components before every use.

Do not use recovery equipment that is cut, frayed, damaged, heat affected, cracked, deformed or otherwise compromised.

Never exceed the rating of the lowest-rated component in the recovery system.

This equipment is intended for vehicle recovery only and must not be used for lifting or hoisting.

If you are unsure how to perform a recovery safely, seek assistance from a suitably experienced person.

DNA4X4 4×4 Recovery Kit FAQs

What is included in the DNA4X4 4×4 Recovery Kit?

The kit includes a 30 ft DNA4X4 kinetic recovery rope, two high-strength soft shackles, a 10,000 kg rated recovery ring, a DNA4X4 storage bag and a detailed recovery equipment user manual.

What is a kinetic recovery rope used for?

A kinetic recovery rope is designed for controlled dynamic vehicle recovery. Unlike a conventional static tow rope, it stretches progressively under load, helping to absorb and release energy during recovery of a stuck vehicle from mud, sand, snow or other difficult terrain.

What vehicles is this recovery kit suitable for?

The DNA4X4 recovery kit is designed for suitable 4x4s, pickup trucks, off-road vehicles, overland builds, expedition vehicles, farm vehicles and working 4x4s. Always make sure the vehicle has suitable rated recovery points before carrying out a recovery.

Can the recovery ring be used with steel winch cable?

No. The DNA4X4 recovery ring is designed for use with suitable synthetic winch rope. The synthetic rope must remain correctly seated within the machined outer groove of the recovery ring during use.

What recovery points should I use?

Only use properly rated vehicle recovery points or rated anchor points suitable for the recovery being carried out. Never attach recovery equipment to a tow ball, transport tie-down point, suspension component or other unrated attachment point.

Can I use the kinetic recovery rope as a normal tow rope?

The kinetic rope is specifically designed for controlled dynamic vehicle recovery rather than routine road towing. Recovery and towing place different loads on vehicles and equipment, so the correct equipment should always be used for the job.

Can this recovery equipment be used for lifting?

No. The DNA4X4 recovery kit is designed for vehicle recovery applications only. It must not be used for lifting, hoisting or suspending loads.

How should I look after my recovery equipment?

Inspect the kinetic rope, soft shackles, recovery ring and all associated equipment before every use. Do not use equipment showing cuts, excessive abrasion, heat damage, deformation, cracking or other signs of deterioration. Clean and dry synthetic recovery equipment before storing it in the supplied DNA4X4 recovery bag.
